The Kanha National Park is in the Maikal range of the Satpuras, which is nestled right in the heart of the Indian subcontinent. The national park is open for visitors from the 1st of October to the end of June. From 1st October to 15th February the park opens at sunrise and closes at noon. It reopens at 3pm and closes by sunset. The opening and closing time for the first half of the day remains same up to the end of June. However, from 16th February to 15th April the national park opens at 4pm and closes at sunset. It opens at 5pm and shuts down for tourists by sunset from 16th April to 30th June. Every Wednesday the National Park remains closed.

When you choose to travel by train keep in mind that the nearest station is Gondia. You have to drive 127 kms to reach the national park. This reserve is well connected by road. Jabalpur, Nagpur, and Raipur are all on the National Highway 7 that connects Kanyakumari to Varanasi.
